I Betrayed My Husband

Randy and I were watching videos and he forced me to watch the Osmond brothers sing Down By The Lazy River. Because he is lame and sad.

Anyway, because I am not a dweeb, I told him that I never loved the Osmond brothers. I also never loved Bobby Sherman.

Well, there was that one Osmond brother’s song. I took the remote from Randy and searched for it.

He told me that if I played Puppy Love that he would do bad things to me. I’m not going to say what because he is nasty and also incorrect about what would transpire.

I was not going to play Puppy Love.

I played the Hawaiian Wedding Song.

Randy had never heard this song before and didn’t know that I knew all the words to the song. It’s probably been 45 years since I’ve heard the song. These are things he said after watching the video.

“What the fuck is wrong with you?”

“I feel like I’ve been Guantanamo-d”

“Our life is a lie.”

Osmond’s aside, Randy and I have been loving seeing live music. We saw Southern Culture on the Skids last week and we’re seeing Nick Lowe next week. It makes me remember who we used to be.

Anyway, I hope you all are having a great weekend. Randy and I are in the mountains of Tennessee acting up with Mountain Girl and the Bass Player.

Also, I am in an anthology called Mom For The Holidays. You should check it out. I’m so excited and honored to be included. I tell the story of the time I tried to pass Randy’s ex-wife’s cookies off as my own. Good times.

Of course, we can’t forget Dude’s antics!

Here are a few memes I posted on Rubber Shoes In Hell’s Facebook page .

  1. Other than the anxiety issues, you are living the life I should be living right now! Can I tag along? I make a great rescue kitty!!! Please?? I remember when Nick Lowe was married to Carlene Carter. I loved both of them in their separate genres and got a little (sniff, sniff) sad when they split. You have to be cruel to be kind though—don’t hit me—and maybe they’re better as friends. 😀 It’s funny, but just a couple of days ago, I was looking at the tour dates for another musical duo that I love, Johnnyswim (they are amazing, check them out!), and I was thinking how very few of the coolest artists come to South Florida. Paul and I got to see Jimmie Vaughan at the Culture Room down here, but even that place isn’t the greatest. When I saw that Johnnyswim was playing in Asheville, NC at some music hall, I thought to myself, “That’s where I need to be! A place that still actually has music halls—more intimate, better acoustics, truly about the music.” Everything down here is either situated in some arena or hoity-toity theater, with tickets starting at $75.00, that kind of thing. Such bullshit! By the way, Jimmie, when are you coming BACK to South Florida? Thought I’d put that out there in case he reads your blog. HAHA!!!

So, I’ve never heard the Hawaiian Wedding Song either. Check it out on Youtube, I must. 😉 Good morning, Lisa K.!!! You might still be in bed right now, unless you’re up feeding those horses! XO

    Hey Hey!!!
    (sorry, couldn’t help it 😀 )
How has ANYBODY made it through life without the Hawaiian Wedding Song??
Gramma and her Wurlitzer with the 100 preset sounds INCLUDING Hawaiian ukulele! (Yeah. I did not spell that correctly. Haha!)
Don Ho was THE sound of the early 70’s and taking piano lessons guaranteed exposure.
    Forgot there were words.
My life might be a lie, too, Randy 😉
But. The Osmonds and the Cassidy’s… ohhhh those were the posters to buy Teen Beat mag for! Don, Shaun and David. The trifecta of the preteen dream maker 🙂
Then Marie put out Paper Roses and the old people got on board, too.
AND THEN! along came Michael Jackson when he was a Silver Platter (?) or the Silver’s, maybe? Let’s get some new dance moves, People!
Akhh. That was a sweet stroll down nostalgia lane 🙂
Have a fantabulous time in the Mountains, Michelle and Randy!
    C’mon Tink!
I wanna Google Shaun and David and I might need a tissue hander 🙂

    • Okay, I did have a crush on Davy Jones and then on David Cassidy, but I was never really into the Osmonds. My best friend in the late 60s/early 70s was in love with Bobby Sherman, too, (anyone remember the TV show Seven Brides For Seven Brothers?) but I guess he wasn’t my cup of tea. As a dancer, I was always more into The Jackson 5 and Michael Jackson—awesomeness on a stick!!! HAHA!

Somewhere, somehow, even though I did take piano lessons, I was denied the privilege of being exposed to the Hawaiian Wedding Song. The only thing I knew about Don Ho was that he did a song about bubbles, not to be confused with Lawrence Welk and Norma Zimmer, the original Champagne Lady. 🙂 On the other hand, I grew up being VERY familiar with Spike Jones’ (not the director, people!!!) version of Hawaiian War Chant. I’m sure that may be considered offensive in some way now, but I found it hilarious! Cocktails For Two was another classic. 🙂

  3. Aaargh, against my better judgement I looked that up on Youtube, I knew the Elvis version but that’s utterly terrifying. It’s actually made me physically cringe. I’m definitely with Randy on this one!

    • KK, I also decided to look that song up, but I did hear Donny Osmond’s version. Oh….my…GOD. It sounds like a chipmunk singing a cheesy love song. Other than the word “aloha” conveniently stuck into the lyrics, WTH does the song have to do with Hawaii?

  4. Now I have the song “Down by the lazy river” stuck in my head. thanks! I LOVED Donny Osmond. Had posters of him in my room. went to his concert in 8th grade wearing….purple of coursr, since it was his favorite color! And “puppy love” about 6 girls were sleeping in my friends camper and I told them wr had to play the song on our record player and see who cried. of course it was oly me…and 50 years later they still bring up my craziness at parties!

  5. I loved Donny and Marie. I had a book written by a girl who’s dad worked for them in some capacity. It was called “On Tour With Donny and Marie”, and I think it literally fell apart from reading and rereading it. She and her sister actually got to spend some time on tour with them. I was so fascinated and jealous.

  6. I guess I was lucky to have two older siblings; my brother was ten years older than me, so I don’t remember anything before the Beach Boys, and went straight from them to the Beatles. I tried to ignore the stuff on the TV and the stuff my classmates were into because it just didn’t do anything for me. I sort of heard it on the radio in the car and stuff like that, but my parents and my brother both had stereo systems as soon as they came out, so to me, music was what came out of them, not the stuff on the TV.
Have fun in the mountains this weekend…
Oh yeah! Brenda texted me pictures of our Neko Case tickets, and now I’m all worried about being able to get to the seats, which are toward the back of the mezzanine…

  7. Love this.

Commando is fun. If you’re going to the tanning salon. One less article of clothing to take off in a timed environment.

I strongly recommend not doing this going through customs at an airport. Or security. Please remove your belt. Um. My pants will fall down.

Take your belt off. Ok. Hold them up.

    Underwear for all airports. 🙂

    I

  8. For a second, I thought you meant “Somewhere down the crazy river” by Robbie Robertson, which is an awesome song, and I was like “The Osmonds covered THAT?” Anyway I don’t know Hawaiian Wedding Song–I’ll have to check it out and see if it was ever covered by the Sex Pistols or something.
