Net Neutrality: I Don’t Want To Lose You

Well, we will find out soon if Net Neutrality gets repealed.

I suspect it will be.

I don’t know what that means to me or my blog or to us. I bet nothing good.

My promise to you: I will protest with my words, my money, and my time to keep net neutrality and an open internet.

I promise if this shit stain of a government interrupts our time together, I will find ways to reach you. Look for me, I will be there. I promise.

Please don’t give up. Let our government know we are not staying quiet. We reject their damaging policies. This is easy, follow the instructions and you cannet neutrality make your voice heard.

Thanks to John Oliver who made this easy.
1. Go to gofccyourself.com
(the shortcut John Oliver made to the hard-to-find FCC comment page)
2. Click on the 17-108 link (Restoring Internet Freedom)
2. Click on “express”
3. Be sure to hit “ENTER” after you put in your name & info so it registers.
4. In the comment section write, “I strongly support net neutrality backed by Title 2 oversight of ISPs.”
5. Click to “Continue to review screen.”
6. Click submit, done.

Even if we lose, please don’t stop fighting.

Don’t ever stop fighting.

Don’t forget you are not alone.

I will talk to you for as long as I can.

Hold on for a minute because we’re making a hard transition here.

In my head, I’m making that screeching sound we all made as kids when we tore ass around a corner in our imaginary cars.

I registered last week for the Erma Bombeck Writer’s workshop. You guys, there aren’t enough words to tell you how excited I am about this. I went two years ago and it felt like coming home. You know the No Rain video? Where the little bee girl is sad because where ever she goes she is different and odd and then she finds all the other bees and is happy? Well, that was me. I was the bee girl finding her tribe.

I am honored and excited to be chosen to be in the Erma Bombeck workshop humor anthology. I am in some impressive company. They spelled my name wrong. Haha. They took the “hell” out of my name.

I wrote an article for the essay contest. I like it. I’m happy with it and if it doesn’t win, I’ll post it here.  I am also signing up for the lottery to perform stand up. I’ve been working on my four minutes for months now. Wish me luck.

Also, I am going to be on the New York Time’s podcast for Modern Love with a 13 word love story I submitted. They want me to record it for the podcast. I will post a link when it is available.

Don’t forget to follow the instructions to voice your opinion on Net Neutrality. You don’t have to stop there, call your elected officials and tell them what you think as well. Every day. Call every day. It only takes a few minutes.

I don’t want to lose you guys.

Stay strong, my friends. We are all in this together.

  1. Thank you so much for this post. I expressed my comment on the site and copied the steps to my personal Facebook.

I grew up with the internet like a lot of people, but out of my friends I definitely had more of a passion for it. Here’s to a win! My heart would break otherwise.

    • You have become one of my closest friends even though we don’t know each other, I really enjoy your blog and feel like we are connected. Also fighting hard to resist these insane things our government comes up with. WTH is wrong with people. I hope we don’t lose contact. Thanks for the link on this neutrality issue. Congratulations on your achievements.

  2. I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU!!!!
Looking forward to all your cool links and to HEAR YOUR VOICE!!!
Congratulations on your Erma Bombeck role! Even if they took your ‘hell,’ your sarcasm and word-ly wit will shine through <3
I signed the petition and my husband did, too. My son lectured me on the pros and cons for both sides…
    *sigh*
I'm pretty sure I raised a Capitalist… I refuse to say the 'R' word in his presence. It's been such a looooong year.
I better damn well get a maid … for Christmas.
    From him.
One of these years. (I'll make sure she/(HE!) gets health insurance. 😉 )

  3. The scary thing about losing net neutrality is I don’t think even the people who want to take it away from us fully understand the implications. It’s bad enough that in my day job I have to deal with websites that work in Firefox but not in Chrome, or vice versa, or only in Explorer because it’s a Microsoft product. Without neutrality that kind of bullshit will be everywhere and it will make life difficult for everyone, including the people currently pushing for it.
For now, though, I want to focus on the positive, like the fact that I work in a library and can make sure the Erma Bombeck writers’ workshop anthology will be added to the collection. And libraries stand as the one place where information is freely available to everyone.
    For now, at least.

  4. I’m so psyched for you! One of the few audiobooks I voiced and produced was Erma Bombeck’s “Wake Up and Smell the Coffee.” You will be a great addition and deserve all of the recognition you are getting. Please let us know when we can see it!

  5. Wow, there is just such amazing information here.
Erma Bombeck is one of my all time heroes. Her writings and advice were amazing. You are so lucky – no not lucky – totally deserving! And all the other stuff, too! Congratulations for ALL of it! I’ll definitely be reading and listening.
Being in Canada, this may be a bit different for us, even though I was born and raised in Seattle. So I will still follow the excellent instructions you provided!
I’m still shocked and appalled at how the current US admin is in shambles, and who will be able to make it right! It may take years. Darn you, Al Franken, you were a possibility.
We all need to stick together. 🙂

  6. Done. Thank you.
Congratulations on the Erma Bombeck thing, and as an example of the value of protecting the internet, AT&T won’t let me follow your link to the humor anthology because John hasn’t paid the internet bill again…

  7. Michelle,

I have a sinking feeling the orange turd will do everything to mess things up. But I’m like you. We’ll still find a way to connect. We have to. Makes me mad just thinking about it.

    • He will do everything he can to mess things up and the more he’s backed into a corner, the worse this shit is going to get. He is so much like my dad that it’s not hard at ALL to tell which way the wind is blowing. I don’t think people understand how very volatile and how very simple he is.

  8. First, congratulations on Erma and the New York Times!!! Michelle, this is great! I can’t wait to read your 13 word love story.
Second, yes we must inundate the crap out of them. We are onto them. And though the road may be hard, we cannot give up. Thanks. And enjoy your time at Erma. You’ll be amazing!!!

Also, I’m going to retweet the hell outta this post, because you’ve made it Just Too Damn Easy! My blog reaches people in Poland and Ukraine a lot lately; somehow more than are reading here at home, so I dunno if I could even say to my readers what you’ve said here, so I’ma just retweet the hell outta this post, ‘k? Get ready for some major traffic! 😀
    .
Also, VEEEERY cool about the Erma Bombeck thingy.

    • Anything ANYTHING we can do to get the word out. And then get the word out for what comes next. This shit isn’t going to resolve itself overnight. And I will try to continue to provide easy information! THank you for spreading the word. And thanks about the Erma thing, I’m very excited about that.

  10. Good luck at the Writer’s Workshop!

And thanks for the Net Neutrality info – I submitted a comment even though it’s way late. But, maybe someone is still listening. Hope so.

  11. Thank you for sharing the link John created…how did I not know about that? Duh.

I submitted my comments, better late than never…and congrats on all the air time! 🙂
