You Say It’s Your Birthday

It’s my birthday, too!!

I didn’t mind turning 50 last year. To me, 50 sounded like freedom.

I was not a fan of turning 40, but I looked forward to 50.

A year later, I can say that it’s shaped up to be all I could hope for. I’m letting go of things that don’t matter to me. for instance, the judgement of others. Who fucking cares? I am exactly me and I have no desire to apologize for that anymore.

I started this blog after my birthday last year and I have had so much fun with it. I have met some amazing people and it’s allowed me to begin working through some past hurts with my own squadron of cheerleaders urging me on.

I would like to take this opportunity on my 51st birthday to say thank you.

Thank you to all of you who read my blog.

Thank you for all your encouragement and support.

Thank you for helping me feel like I might actually have something to say.

It means more to me than all the vintage shoes and chocolate cake in the world.

I almost couldn’t write the chocolate cake part because it felt a little like a lie. I had to think about that for a minute.

The truth is, you guys really are better than chocolate cake. Even better than chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream.

Here’s hoping that 51 is even better.

44 Thoughts.

  1. Happy 51st birthday Michelle. Life flies by so quickly these days, so enjoy every moment of it. I’ll have to think about anyone being better than chocolate cake. I like my food way too much.

Hope you have many more happy birthdays and enjoy the rest of the week.

    • Thank you, and yes it does fly by…I try not to think about that too much. haha…

Yeah, it was a hard choice, but I really do like y’all more than chocolate cake.

  2. I found your blog yesterday, which was also my daughter’s 11th birthday. I didn’t see this page until today, I found your post about being the adult child of a narcissist through a google search. Happy Birthday.

From someone at the beginning of this journey, I just want to say thank you for being in the room with me when I finally found the light switch. I thought I was alone all these years. Please keep blogging, I can tell I will need you in the coming years and months.

    • Thank you so much!

And I’m glad you found me, we need to stick together and muddle through this shit! If you ever want to drop me an email, just hit that contact button.

  3. OMG HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Hope it was awesome!

I’m so glad you’re here, and yes, you definitely have something to say.

And, chocolate cake sounds really good right now…

  4. Happy Birthday Michelle! I will be 50 next year and I am looking forward to it as well. This planet has been a better place the last 51 years because of you being in it Michelle. Here’s to another 51 years! And chocolate cake. With ice cream and sprinkles and money hidden inside of it like when we were kids (or a winning lottery ticket!). And wine. Lots and lots of wine. (I noticed you didn’t say we are better than wine. ๐Ÿ™‚ Chocolate cake is pretty good though, not gonna lie so you must love us a lot!)

  5. Thank YOU. For singing my life with your words. Helping me know I’m not crazy or even broken. That there is hope. Happiest birthday, ever.

    • Oh my gosh! You are so welcome! We’re not broken at all…we have experience that makes us unique and a little crazy…but we rock like frozen crazy.

  6. I hope you had the BEST birthday ever !!!!! I must be honest and say I am looking forward to turning 50 – I think it’s going to be a real hoot !!
I’m really glad you started blogging and I’m even more glad that I found you !
    Have the best day !
    Me

    • It has absolutely been a wonderful day! Although, I am very nearly in a sugar coma and am uncomfortably full…I have been all day….but damn..it’s been good.

  7. I’m glad you had a good birthday, and I’m glad I found your blog. It’s amazing what you can find in the Bloggess’ comment section; so many links to interesting blog posts, and at the bottom of so many of them, wow, there’s a comment from that RageMichelle again. I should go and check her blog out again, she sounds hella cool…
